Privacy
Important points regarding confidentiality and my privacy commitment to you, and more specifically, the limits of my confidentiality.
******
Firstly:
All information disclosed to me will be held in strictest confidence; other individuals who may have access to your paper and/or electronic file, may include selected school professionals, but only on a ”need to know” basis. Please review the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) - Code of Ethics (available at the Guidance Office) for additional information on my privacy commitment to you.
Secondly:
Any information you disclose to me that may indicate that you could do harm to yourself or others will be outside the limits of my confidentiality. If there is imminent risk that you are seriously intending to harm yourself or someone else I would be required to take action to prevent that harm from occurring, including: alerting the authorities and/or warning the person who is being threatened; and/or contacting a third party.
Thirdly:
I am legally bound to report any information you reveal with regard to any suspected abuse or neglect of a child. As well, other abuse disclosures, such as abuse of the disabled and/or elderly.
Fourthly:
I am legally obligated to disclose any information that may be requested under a court order. For example, if I am called upon (subpoenaed) to testify about you in court my records about you could also be reviewed in court. Also considered here is when an individual files a complaint or claims professional liability by the counselor in a lawsuit.

Please note that if you have any questions or concerns regarding the foregoing, feel free to chat further with me.

Guidance Objective
"I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."

The Guidance Program at Dunne, St. Catherine's and Stella Maris attempts to assist students in identifying and achieving their social, emotional, academic, and intellectual potential to help ensure both career and life success. As such, the program also aims to prepare/provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully facilitate/manage their lifelong adjustment amidst constant societal change and challenge. The counseling approach is person – centered and private, although at times may utilize small group work depending on the presenting issue. In keeping with the premise that the delivery of a school guidance program is a shared responsibility, all members of the school staff are considered to be members of the School Guidance Team. Indeed, a comprehensive and effective school guidance program requires regular communication and consultation between students, school personnel, parents and the community in general. The Guidance Counselor is available to meet students and/or parents to review student concerns and/or goals and to monitor student progress. Both students and parents are encouraged to get acquainted with the counselor early in the school year and to always feel welcome to drop in for a chat.
